I just finished an interview for a job at a local pub and have been asked to come in this evening for a trial shift behind the bar, any advice on pouring pints etc as I’ve never done it before and don’t want to look like an idiot in front of customers.

2021.10.23 08:53 Bapoivre What am I doing wrong
I'm 17 and hear all of my friends getting laid, getting girlfriends, nudes, etc...
Why the fuck am I the only one who doesn't have any of these ?? I mean, even my not super attractive friends get at least nudes, I'm genuinely confused.
I'm not unattractive, I have a good personnality, I try to talk to girls but when I see that they don't give the same energy back I just stop, so I'm definitly not needy...
I see girls on tiktok making jokes about sex, talking about sex, etc...
I feel so excluded of this world, I just feel like I wanna get into a club but they don't want me in.
In my whole life, I deeply connected with only two girls : I had one girlfriend, but it was not great, and had a super close female friend that I stopped talking to because she was giving me anxiety. That's it.
Please tell me where did I screw up ?

72-82% depending on amount, rep, denominations, etc. I prefer to use algorand to send crypto just because it confirms almost instantaneously and has extremely low fees, but I am flexible on which crypto, so long as fees and confirmation times are reasonable.

2021.10.23 08:53 BillNyeCreampieGuy Has there been an episode that focuses on the military industrial complex?
Feels like a pretty big topic that’s had one of, if not the largest impacts on America and American culture.
During my service, it was pretty evident just how atrociously expensive and wasteful it could be. Always bothered me that America is essentially held hostage by the MIC, and all those it funds in politics, etc. I know Rogan’s big on culture war topics, and maybe it’s just me, but I’ve gathered that the MIC has had some considerable fallout on American culture as well.
There’s a large (enough) portion of Americans whose identity is that they’re veterans/service members VS simply being an American who served. The latter is what I would consider myself. We see it in podcasts, businesses (like BRC), YouTube celebrities, and so on. I’m often curious if this “military war fighter” identity culture is simply the result of us being in war for so long, if it’s something that was maybe supported and propped up by special interest groups that benefit from American wars, propaganda efforts, or something else entirely.
Would be very interested in a deep dive on this topic by someone who has dedicated research to it.

2021.10.23 08:53 mbrrdit bladebit comparison with E5 2650 v2 (25 minutes here)
I tried bladebit with an HP dl380p Gen8 with two Xeon E5 2650 v2 and 512 GB RAM with 1866 MHz as target I have a Raid0 with 6 15K SAS drives.
I got one plot in 25 Minutes, switching the CPU to a E5 2670 v1 also resulted in 25 Minutes, I wonder is this in the expected time Range?
Using madmax with these HP dl380p Gen8 and two E5 2650 v2 and 128 GB RAM I get times of around 40 minutes.
Actually I did expect the RAM only plots to be faster, are there some known tweaks I could apply?

2021.10.23 08:53 postgygaxian Privacy-violating trends in facial biometrics in Communist China and Western countries
Many people hesitate to publish pictures of their faces to the Internet because non-privacy-respecting companies may capture their faces and use them for unethical ends.
Some researchers (especially in Communist China) argue that no one should have privacy and that everyone should be subjected to biometric monitoring.
Of course, the privacy violators who want to abolish privacy are aware that people might try to spoof their systems. For example, IDMERIT appears to be a profit-driven company that seeks to make a temporary profit by permanently undermining privacy.
Ideally, people who want to protect their privacy could somehow devise a method that would defeat biometric face recognition and yet be acceptable for daily use.
Quite a few casual websites expect a picture of each user's face, and they may gatekeep important functions until a user has uploaded a face picture. For poorly-monitored sites, one can generate an entirely fake picture, e.g. an AI-generated picture of a person who does not exist.
Sometimes, depending on what your face looks like, you can refresh this page until you find a picture that basically looks enough like you so that you can claim it is an old picture of you. This can useful for a nosy group of local people who cannot be trusted to keep your photo private, but who demand to have a picture of you.
If you happen to wear a distinctive pair of glasses, and if you can find a similar-looking person wearing similar glasses, you can upload such a degraded version of the picture. You could also morph various face photos together, although this might be easily detectable.
A special case is the case of a semi-trusted group that presses you to provide a high-resolution, recent image of your face. Ideally, one might be able to take a high-resolution photo and somehow digitally alter it to prevent the use of face analysis software without making the distortions obvious to human observers. However, if a company provides this service, the company becomes a single point of failure. Further, because the tech is likely to be imperfect, it might be possible to use the distorted image to reconstruct an image that would be good enough for privacy violation.
The penultimate problem is that if you associate temporarily with a company that does not respect privacy, they may photograph you with or without your consent, at which point your face might be copied to any number of databases.
The ultimate problem is that Western societies might eventually lose all legal protections for privacy and sink to the level of Communist China. If the vast majority of society assents to the notion that privacy is obsolete, then no technical measures are likely to provide long-term protection.

2021.10.23 08:53 12nb34 “The doctor told us they were following protocols for the elderly, and since my uncle was so old and weak he wouldn’t get hospital care,” Jihem recalls. Sweden has seen more than 5,800 deaths from Covid-19 — nearly half of them in care homes.
Care home residents account for nearly half of deaths linked to Covid-19 in Sweden, a high proportion that health professionals and families of the victims have blamed on the government’s reluctance to admit elderly patients to hospital. FRANCE 24's Catherine Norris-Trent and James André report.
AFP: They sacrificed the elderly
Moses Ntanda was 72 when he died of coronavirus in a Swedish care home for the elderly. His family has since filed a police report, saying there were several lapses in his care.
“My uncle was always there for me. That's why I'm fighting for him now,” his niece, Juliana Jihem, tells FRANCE 24. “I know he wouldn't accept this, he would be really angry.”
Ntanda suffered from dementia. He was diagnosed with Covid-19 on April 12 and died just four days later.
“The doctor told us they were following protocols for the elderly, and since my uncle was so old and weak he wouldn’t get hospital care,” Jihem recalls.
Sweden has seen more than 5,800 deaths from Covid-19 — nearly half of them in care homes. Prominent scientists have criticised the authorities' approach and the government has itself admitted it failed to adequately protect the elderly.
"They didn't try to save their lives. They were scared that the intensive care units would be overwhelmed and you couldn't take care of young people,” says Anders Vahlne, a professor of virology at the Karolinska Institute. “And so they were selecting [patients], a bit too harshly I think".
