2022.01.23 05:28 Alloth- starting in games development as investor

Greetings at the age of 39 gaming my whole life with my childhood friend. we finally decided to put our money together and start our small company, yet we have zero knowledge in this field. reading different articles on how and where to start doesn't help, since we won't be doing the work our selfs. we would like to start with games like Thronebreaker, Gordian Quest or Kingdom Two Crowns
- where i can learn more about the process of managing/running game development Business? - hiring programmers/game artists, which set of skills/talents we're supposed to aim at? - it's possible to buy all the assets you need online? can you freely edit assets after you buy it? - it's reliable to hire freelance to do certain task? it's possible to work with someone online on new game project? how you guys go on signing contracts? and how you do the payments? - what's the expected cost (roughly) for games like the one i linked? (2D) - is there any website where i can check detailed production cost for indie titles?
going into unfamiliar ground here so what's the best approach not to lose all your money on the first project?
any answers much appreciated. much love to you all.

Hello everyone, I am about 10 months post op and my knee is feeling great almost zero pain. The only problem I have is a feeling of crunching when I squat. Is this normal? There is no pain, it is just an odd feeling.

2022.01.23 05:28 eapr207 Plate recommendation

I've been trying to find a post that was made about a year ago on plates. Not the one in the wiki, but made by another member.
I have a set of RMA 1155's and Hesco L210's right now. I'm looking for recommendations for a decent set of level III+ multi-curve plates. Or should I just sell a set of plates and put the funds towards some better level IV's? Multicurve is the only criteria I really have. I'm built like an ugly sasquatch so the 1155's aren't super comfy in my JPC.

2022.01.23 05:28 CalebK59 Suggestions

So, I'm making a scrawny character that wears an enchanted set of massive hulking armor. Any suggestions for mechanics on the armor? I'm making him so that he's completely reliant on the armor, like stat bonuses (cuz low base stats), abilities gained thru the armor, etc etc. I'd appreciate suggestions for how the Armor works in general (scales with char level).
Here's his backstory if that can help.
Finn grew up in the humble village of Oakwood. People there live a happy and fun life, however, they are victims to occasional attacks. Animals, beasts, and monsters attack this village every few weeks. Finn loves watching the village fighters repel these foes, he adores their determination to protect the powerless people of this village.
When Finn was 12, he started seeing a 7ft. tall hulking mass of armor patrolling the forest area every once in a while. Finn approached this figure only to find out it's a man in massive armor. He would chat and play games with this man every time they see each other. He eventually introduces himself as Ector. Finn would shout out "STAY COOL DUDE" whenever it's time to day goodbye.
Ector learns about a pillage on Oakwood being planned by the Bandit Leader, Mauler. He hides this information from Finn. Ector goes off to repel this pillage on the appointed day. Finn sees Ector moving in a hurry and decides to follow him, he sees Ector bodying the grunts sent his way. Ector eventually showsdown with Mauler, the two seem to be on equal footing, landing occasional good hits on each other. Finn gets so scared and worried that he jumps out from the bushes and shouts "BE CAREFUL DUDE". Mauler is quick to act and takes Finn hostage, just as Mauler was about to strike Finn down Ector tanks the hit for Finn, causing a great sword to run through his chest. Mauler being weaponless, Ector dispatches of him in a flurry of blows.
Ector pulls out the great sword and dismounts his armor, dropping to the ground. Finn cries in sorrow talking to Ector during his final moments. Finn calls out for help, but no one answers. Ector calms him down and speaks to him. "I'm glad to have protecting you as my last actions." Ector says faintly. Finn begs for him to hang in there but is interrupted by Ector. "Kid, don my armor and protect those you love and cherish. Stay cool dude." He says just before succumbing to his wounds. Finn cries out in immense pain and loss. He gets interrupted by the armor glowing. The enchantment on the Guardian Armor reads into Ector's final wishes and acknowledges Finn as his new host. Finn takes the rest of his day to honor and put Ector to rest.
Finn spends years training to fight while donning the massive armor. When he reaches 17, he decides to find out more about the armor and Ector's history. He sets out on an adventure under the identity of, The Ebony Knight.

2022.01.23 05:28 StSeanSpicer [BATTLE] Are Ya Ne Winning, Son?

Bilu Island Beach Days
VISIT Bilu Island! Beaches! Beautiful sunsets! Views of Moulmein! A good exchange rate, and plenty of peasants willing to rent out a room!
Ne Win received troubling information from his Soviet sponsors. There were KMT warships headed in the direction of Burma, escorting, absurdly enough, an amphibious group. This shocking revelation finally convinced Ne Win to swallow his pride and accept Soviet military forces in his country, starting with Il-38 maritime patrol craft. Unfortunately for him, while the Soviets negotiated passage rights through India and organized a massive aerial refueling chain through the Pacific, the ROCN forces deposited an entire ROCMC brigade onto Bilu island, placing all water traffic through the Salween delta within range of KMT artillery, threatening the flow of supplies to the embattled city of Moulmein.
The KMT landing was accompanied by a second Mon and Karen offensive from their mountain strongholds on the Thai border into the lowlands around Moulmein. Combined with KMT regulars, they pushed the Tatmadaw into a defensive perimeter around Moulmein, securing much of the rich Mon-populated agricultural land around Moulmein for supplies and recruiting. However, the Tatmadaw adapted to their situation quickly and sent the elite 77th Light Infantry Division from Bago down NH8 to relieve the city. The 77th cleared the road of Karen insurgents with relative ease and reached Martban within a week. But while separated from Moulmein by seven kilometers of water, without sufficient river transport or naval support, the 77th had to settle for running nighttime supply and reinforcement convoys with existing river ferries, keeping the garrison of the city alive but failing to tip the balance.
A ray of hope appeared when the Soviet aircraft attempted to launch a bombing raid on the ROC naval forces, but the attempt was conducted from an extremely high altitude by Il-38s, not dedicated bombers. Of the many bombs dropped, only a few had any impact at all, and no damage was done to the ships. Nevertheless, the attempt, and the arrival of Tu-16s, was sufficient to scare off the ROCN. However, this worry may have been misplaced, as the Soviets did not seem overly interested in committing to help Ne Win. The Tu-16s launched a single cruise missile attack on the ROCAF facilities at Kengtung, which did little damage, while the arriving MiG-19s contented themselves with air patrol. Meanwhile, the Tatmadaw had resolved to relieve Moulmein by building pontoon bridges over both the Salween and Gyaing rivers, but conducting two opposed river crossings in insurgent-infested territory would take time, time that the CPB insurgents in the Pegu Yomas would use to recover while the 77th was distracted.
At the same, Ne Win was beginning to fully implement his governing policies. First went the Chinese, then the Indians. Then the big businesses, then the small ones. Then the… 50 and 100 kyat banknotes? And… no foreign trade? Needless to say, these policies were not popular. Not exactly satisfied with poor-quality goods produced by newly-nationalized companies, most Burmese instead turned to the black market. Within an instant, Ne Win had diverted a huge portion of his tax base directly into the hands of the insurgents controlling and taxing the black market trade with Thailand and Laos, fueled dissatisfaction among the ever-restless urban population, and made enemies in both India and China.
Through this all, Ne Win remained serene, proclaiming that these were merely growing pains on the Burmese Path to Socialism. His Soviet sponsors, on the other hand, were practically apoplectic. They had invested tens of millions, possibly hundreds of millions of rubles in propping up a potential ally. And this “ally” had turned out to be unwilling to follow directions and totally self-sabotaging. Burma could be a worthwhile investment, they thought. It just needed better management…
The Return of the King
Rangoon, Burma, September 1st, 1967
“Motion to censure Ne Win for his economic policies: all in favor say aye.”
“Motion passes. Four ayes and… twelve abstentions. The Union Revolutionary Council hereby censures Chairman Ne Win for his misguided management of national economic affairs.”
New Delhi, India, September 1st, 1967
“Sir, the Union Revolutionary Council has censured you.”
“Is our plane ready?”
“What? Sir, don’t you think it’s likely that… there’s a coup going on?”
“Obviously! That’s why I’m going back. Get the provincial commanders on the phone.”
Well, you know what happens next.. But despite his stunning charisma, Ne Win wouldn’t escape the coup attempt against him unscathed. In the chaos, the enemies of the state had gained additional ground, and thousands of his own troops had defected. Even worse, many of his own field commanders were now in jail, leaving many units completely leaderless. And it would only get worse for the Winner…
Ne Win goes on a dating show
In a total coincidence, after the coup failed, the Soviets essentially abandoned Burma. Ne Win, under normal circumstances, would be able to survive without one. But facing increasingly overt PRC aggression necessitated some changes in the modus operandi. His first stop was Washington D.C., but the Americans were only willing to give meaningless sympathy, not real aid. Not much of a surprise, given Ne Win’s own politics and Burma’s pariah status, but disappointing nevertheless. His next, and last option, was India. India was obviously not too happy to deal with the hundreds of thousands of dispossessed Burmese Indians Ne Win had caused, but perhaps there was some potential, Ne Win thought. After all, Burma and India faced many of the same insurgents, and surely India wouldn’t want China to gain another foothold in the region?
India, as it turns out, did not get over “ethnic cleansing” very easily. Lame.
A Land War in Asia (again)
Ne Win was right to be worried. While the siege of Moulmein was consuming much of the Tatmadaw’s attention (at one point occupying a third of the Tatmadaw’s forces, including two of their three Light Infantry Divisions), there were signs that soon focus would need to be shifted north. The PLA had vocally expressed its displeasure over the treatment of ethnic Chinese in Burma, and since then it appeared that material support for the CPB had drastically increased. And this time, they were receiving not only rifle-caliber weapons and light artillery, but rocket artillery and heavy howitzers. But by far the most worrying action was when a number of Burmese aircraft providing support to the besieged border garrison of Muse were shot down by PLAAF MiG-19s. Beijing subsequently claimed that the Burmese had violated Chinese airspace and even accidentally bombed the PRC, but everyone in Rangoon knew the real message: back off and let us have our sphere.
Evidently, the PRC was not satisfied with the Burmese response, because soon after the Soviet withdrawal, the PLA crossed the border into Burma en masse. Several PLA divisions, backed by heavy artillery and air power, overran the remaining Tatmadaw border garrisons with ease. However, as the PLA advanced further into Burma, they increasingly discovered that despite their tradition of fielding excellent light infantry, the jungle fighting abilities of their own troops (largely green units from the Yunnan military region) paled in comparison to that of Tatmadaw units with years of experience. Nevertheless, overwhelming firepower, weight of numbers, and a relatively friendly local population all aided in clearing Tatmadaw forces from the Muse-Lashio highway segment.
In Kachin State, the PLA successfully besieged the key town of Bhamo, cutting a major road connection to Myitkyina and threatening the far more important “railway corridor” to the city. However, the PLA’s lack of heavy weapons due to the transportation situation and superior Tatmadaw combat performance hindered their efforts to use light infantry to disrupt the Tatmadaw's rear. Efforts to advance along the roads met more success, but met increasing resistance as the PLA began entering Bamar-majority areas. The PLA advance continues in most areas of the front, but supply bottlenecks and poor tactical performance have left most of the Tatmadaw’s strength intact and left them in control of a number of key points. However, the PRC, having already deployed eight divisions, has shown a clear willingness to commit nearly Korean-war scale resources to achieve their goals, and as their engineers improve the China-Burma roads, their combat capabilities will only increase.
Overt Chinese invasion finally drove India to provide troops and aircraft in exchange for reparations for expelled Indians (in reality to justify moves to counter Chinese influence). Just days after the first border battles, flights of Indian Air Force transport aircraft began dropping off Gurkhas in Mandalay. So far, Indian air cover and ground forces have already proven vital in stalling out the PLA siege of Lashio, though India for the moment does not seem interested in matching the scale of the Chinese deployment, even as the PLA continues to advance on other fronts.
It seems that nowhere in Burma will be free from ethnic violence. On the previously relatively quiet Indian border, the bad omens of 1962 appear to be repeating themselves, as the local Naga and Chin insurgents have somehow obtained a plentiful supply of weapons to prosecute their campaign. With the Tatmadaw otherwise occupied, these insurgents have made truces with local Tatmadaw affiliated warlords and essentially expelled all semblance of government authority from their base regions. Paradoxically, this increase in violence has occured while the Indian government is taking steps to grant autonomy to the various Mizo and Naga peoples who share a cause with their Burmese counterparts.
Meanwhile, in the Irrawaddy Delta, the campaign against the original CPB continues. The departure of the best Tatmadaw troops has slowed down the Burmese strategy considerably, but as the CPB’s supply of manpower and weapons continues to wither away, the long-term trend is clear. Since 1962, Rangoon has reported the elimination of thousands of CPB fighters and the reduction of their base areas to a small portion of the Pegu Yomas. While some of these claims are surely propaganda, the truth is evident to anyone with firsthand experience in the area, and it is not favorable for the CPB.
Meanwhile, in Arakan, the campaign against the Red Flags was projected to follow a similar course to the anti-CPB campaign; a slow and constant battle of attrition. However, the Tatmadaw caught a lucky break when they captured Red Flag leader Thakin Soe in his camp. The Red Flags had always been the weaker and less ideologically coherent faction, and without their charismatic leader, the entire movement swiftly disintegrated. Former Red Flag fighters have either accepted government amnesties, joined up with local Rakhine militias, or essentially become bandits, but either way, they pose little organized threat to Burmese rule in the region.
Highs and Lows As conventional fighting has escalated, roads, bridges, and mountain passes have all become battlefields. In turn, the masses of small-time traders, peddlers, and smugglers that used to populate border crossings and mountain towns have thinned out considerably. Armed groups which once relied upon “taxes and tolls” levied upon the lucrative black market trade have found their main revenue source in decline. Unsurprisingly, more and more are turning to the cultivation of opium and the production of heroin for revenue to feed their families and buy arms.
The takeup of drug smuggling has varied between groups, of course. Some ethnic armed groups, whether because of strong religious convictions, reluctance to bring harm to their own communities, logistical difficulties, or access to other sources of revenue, have mostly avoided involvement in the drug trade. PRC-aligned groups, flush with arms from PLA armories and lacking a strong drug market in China, have generally only dabbled in drugs, usually for resale to Thai, Laotian, and Indian, rather than Chinese markets. KMT-aligned groups, on the other hand, have been practically urged by Taipei to join in the trade, with predictable results.
The outflow of opium, and more concerningly, heroin, from Burma has begun to draw the attention of governments towards that oft-forgotten corner of Asia. Thai and Laotian authorities have been slow to respond to the issue, probably because a huge portion of their security forces are in on the business. But in the West, rising levels of opiate addiction have plastered Burma, “Golden Triangle,” and “Taipei Express” (the weekly ROCAF C-130 flights between Kengtung and Taipei) across front pages and evening news broadcasts. Even Bangkok, usually permissive with regards to drugs, has begun expressing concern as to the effects of the drug trade on the country’s social stability.
The increasingly depraved nature of the war in Burma has also roused increasing opposition to foreign involvement among Burma’s various ethnic minorities. Most ethnic fighters remain at least nominally willing to work with the foreigners to secure their independence, but as the fighting has hollowed out their communities through breakdown of local economies, forced displacement, and corvee labor, many groups are breaking off from the wider struggle to protect their own communities and begin the hard work of governing. But for every group which withdraws, there is another which pops up to chase profits and glory.
Nor has dissent among the opposition helped the Tatmadaw. Whether they are willing to aid the foreigners or not, virtually no ethnic armed group is willing to sit down and talk with the Burmese government, at least not while Ne Win continues to send his troops to kill and burn, or fund local warlords who are at least as bad as the worst ethnic independence groups. While the Chinese invasion has led to a surge of patriotic feeling among the Bamar, giving political cover to the introduction of conscription and motivating thousands of young urban Bamar to join the army, it has also cut off almost all of Burma’s illegal trade with the outside world. As the economy goes into freefall, Burma is now experiencing major shortages of common consumer goods. The price of food for urban consumers continues to rise, a shocking occurrence in a nation that was once one of Asia’s largest rice exporters. And the price increases continue, as increasing numbers of peasants flee the countryside for the safety of Mandalay and Rangoon.
